Hluhluwe

##Hluhluwe The small town of Hluhluwe in Northern Natal is popular because of its close proximity to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park (previously called Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve) and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Overview

#Hluhluwe Hluhluwe, is situated near the Northeast coast of Natal between the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park (former Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve) and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (former Greater St Lucia Wetland Park) on the banks of the Hluhluwe River. The River is named after the thorny plants growing along the river banks. Farms produce cattle, timber, sugar cane and pineapples.

The close proximity to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is the town’s main attraction. The Park covers about 96,000 ha of varied fauna and flora. It is famous for bringing the endangered white rhino back from the brink of extinction.

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park, close to Hluhluwe, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an animal conservation and game farm area. The region hosts the Big Five, over 350 species of bird and a variety of other wildlife including rhino, giraffe, wildebeest and many antelope species.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park has five distinct eco-systems that range from sub-tropical seas, coral reefs, sandy beaches and lush forests to grassy plains, dry savannah and reed and papyrus wetlands. The inland lakes and estuaries are home to hippos, crocodile and fish and the beaches of St Lucia, Cape Vidal and Sodwana Bay are easily accessed from Hluhluwe.
