Overview
#North West Province North West is one of the nine provinces of South Africa and is situated to the west of the Johannesburg metropolis. Geographically it consists mostly of flat grassland, scattered with trees. The main mountain range is the Magaliesberg mountains spreading from from east to west.
Agriculture is important in this region but, North West is also known for its rich mineral deposits. The province has gold mines in the Klerksdorp region, platinum near Rustenburg and diamonds near Lichtenburg and Bloemhof.
The main tourist attractions are the Pilanesberg Game Reserve and the Sun City Holiday Resort. Pilanesberg is the fourth largest of the National Parks and home to the big five as well as a multitude of other animal and bird species. The Sun City complex is rated among the top five in the world. It boasts three five star hotels and one three star hotel, it also offers a wide variety of entertainment, including two internationally acclaimed golf courses.
