Overview
#Tsitsikamma Mountains The Tsitsikamma Mountains run from West to East and form the Northern border of the Garden Route. It stretches for 80 Km from Keurbooms River in the West to Eerste River in the East. To the West it forms a continuous range with the Outeniqua Mountains, North of George. To the North of the Tsitsikama Mountains you find the arid Little Karroo, quite different from the lush vegetation of the Garden Route to the South.
The highest peak in the range is Peak Formosa (1675 m). The Table Mountain Sandstone of which the mountain range consists, is highly resistant to erosion and makes for its impressive topography. Snow can occur on the mountain tops during winter. The climate is very mild with temperatures that vary between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. This makes it most suitable for the indigenous fynbos and other forest habitats.
The Garden Route National Park that lies to the South of the range and stretches to the Indian Ocean is most popular with tourists, due to the beauty of the forests, the scenic variety and a large number of adventure activities that can be enjoyed.
