Overview

#Sunshine Coast The Sunshine Coast in South Africa stretches from the Tsitsikamma Reserve in the South to East London in the North. Aptly named the Sunshine Coast, because it boasts more sunshine hours per year than the rest of sunny South Africa. This is due to the warm Mozambique current that runs along this coast and leads to the moderate temperatures. As it lies between South Africa’s winter and summer rainfall regions, rain is spread fairly evenly over the whole year, averaging between 600 and 700 mm per year.

This coastal belt is dotted with small holiday villages, river estuaries, and game reserves. The towns of Port Alfred, Kenton-on-Sea and Boesmansriviermond can be seen as the heart of the Sunshine coast. The largest cities are Port Elizabeth and East London. A big attraction of this stretch of coastline is due to the fact that it is not as commercialised as other coastal regions and caters especially for clients who prefer to enjoy holidays close to nature.

Visitors may go in search of the “big six” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros and whales) in the Addo National Elephant Park, the greater Addo of includes a marine reserve. Many of the private game reserves also include the big five. Some other activities include swimming, beach combing, fishing, surfing and hiking.
