Cape Winelands and West Coast Scheduled Tour
Overview
On a given Monday you will be collected at your hotel by our professional driver guide to depart for the Cape Winelands. The tour will take you to the Wineland towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington and Riebeek Kasteel. The Winelands is the largest wine producing region in South Africa with more than 200 cellars. The history of viniculture in this region dates back to the arrival of the French Huguenots in 1688. The climate of the Winelands is ideal for producing award winning wines. Lately olive groves have also become popular. On your first tour day lunch and wine tasting will be en route at a wine estate near Malmesbury (own account). This area is also the largest wheat producing area in South Africa. Riebeek Kasteel, in the heart of the Riebeek Valley will be your overnight destination.
On day two you travel to Paternoster via Porterville and Clanwilliam in the Cederberg Mountains. The Cederberg Mountains are named after the endangered Cape Cedar tree, it has been proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the charming small town, Clanwilliam, you visit two factories producing typical South African products, one producing traditional "velskoene" (leather shoes) from untanned leather and the other producing rooibos tea. The day ends at quaint Paternoster where you overnight.
Day three take you on a tour of the unique West Coast with visits to Saldanha Bay, the West Coast National Park, the unique village of Darling and Blouberg Strand for the classic view of Table Mountain, before returning to Cape Town.
Itinerary
- Day 1 Cape Town → Riebeek West
Cape Town to Riebeek West via Stellenbosch (± 150 Km)
You will be collected at your hotel in Cape Town by our professional driver-guide. You travel inland to the Cape Winelands, a beautiful valley lined by mountains. The region has over 200 cellars, of which many has won international acclaim. You travel via historic Stellenbosch with it's Oak lined streets, Paarl, shaded by a mountain where the boulders shimmer like pearls after rain and Wellington, an important educational centre.
You stop for lunch and wine tasting (own account) at a Swartland vineyard near Malmesbury. Contrary to the vineyards of the Cape Winelands that are irrigated, the vineyards of the Swartland (Black land) are cultivated in dry conditions, which adds to a special flavour. The Swartland is the largest wheat producing region of South Africa.
You end your tour for the day in the beautiful Riebeek Valley. Dinner at the hotel (own account).

- Day 2 Riebeek-Kasteel → Paternoster
Riebeek-Kasteel to Paternoster via Clanwilliam (± 360 Km)
After breakfast you depart from Riebeek-Kasteel and travel to Clanwilliam in the Cederberg Mountains. The mountains are named after the endangered Cape Cedar that is endemic to this region. The Cederberg was proclaimed a wilderness area in 1973 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a sparsely populated area with typical red sand stone rock formations. Many examples of ancient Bushmen rock art are to be found here.
At Clanwilliam you stop for two factory tours where typical South African products are produced. The first is a velskoen (leather shoe) factory. The velskoen is traditional and very popular with farmers and bush rangers. They are made of untanned leather and sewn together without any nails. The second stop is at a rooibos tea factory. Rooibos tea is produced from the indigenous rooibos (red bush) and is growing in popularity internationally. It is caffeine free and deemed to be very healthy. More than 50% of the rooibos tea produced at Clanwilliam is exported.Lunch will be at the rooibos factory (own account).
From Clanwilliam we travel to Paternoster, one of the last remaining traditional fishing villages on the Cape West Coast. Check in and relax before you have dinner at Abalone House located in the village.

- Day 3 Paternoster → Cape Town
Paternoster to Cape Town via West Coast (± 170 Km)
From Paternoster you depart for Saldanha Bay. Saldanha Bay is South Africa’s largest natural harbour and port. The economy centres on fishing and the harbour. Iron ore mined at Sishen is exported from Saldanha Bay. This is known as the Sishen-Saldanha project.
From Saldanha you travel via the West Coast National Park with its endless beaches and the Langebaan Lagoon. In Spring time the whole park is transformed into a carpet of indigenous flowers.
Lunch (own account) will be at the charming village of Darling. From Darling you travel to Blue Water Bay on the Northern side of Table Bay from where you have the classic view of iconic Table Mountain.
The tour ends with a late arrival at Cape Town, either at your hotel or the Cape Town International Airport.
