4 days 3 nights Cape Town → Port Elizabeth

Overview

On this four day tour you depart from Cape Town and travel north to join the popular Route 62. Enjoy the ever changing scenery. You make a stop at the Tradouw valley for traditional mampoer tasting (a potent locally brewed drink!). Continue to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world. You visit an ostrich farm for an enjoyable educational tour. Overnight at a game lodge with the option of an evening game drive (own account).

After breakfast you will be introduced to the elephants that were saved and raised at the lodge. This is an opportunity for a close encounter with these gentle giants of the African bush. Travel to the Cango Caves for a tour of these magnificent subterranean halls and passageways. You pass over the Outeniqua Pass to enter the Garden Route. A photo stop will be made en route to the popular holiday town of Knysna. After checking in at your hotel, you enjoy a sunset oyster cruise on the lagoon. Dinner is for your own account

The third day is devoted to a visit to Plettenberg Bay where you embark on an ocean safari in search of dolphins, seals and whales. In the afternoon you do a tour in the local township before returning to Knysna. The last day of the tour will be spent travelling to Port Elizabeth with en route visits to the Tsitsikama Forest and Storms River Mouth.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Cape Town → Oudtshoorn

    Cape Town to Oudtshoorn viea Route 62 (±420km)

    You will be collected at you hotel to travel north through the Huguenot tunnel and Du Toitskloof to join the popular Route 62. Enjoy the ever changing scenery of this popular route. A stop is made at the Tradouw valley for a tasting of traditional (potent!) Mampoer. At Oudtshoorn, known as the ostrich capital of the world, you visit an ostrich farm, for a close encounter with these wonderful birds. This is a fun but also very educational tour to be enjoyed by all. Check in at a private game lodge for your overnight stay. There is the option of a game drive (for own account). Relax and refresh before enjoying dinner.

  2. Day 2 Oudtshoorn → Knysna

    Oudtshoorn to Knysna(±125km)

    After breakfast you will have the rare opportunity to interact with the elephants that were rescued and raised at the lodge. You have the privilege to get real close to these giants of the African bush. Depart for the Cango Caves in the Swartberg Mountains, where you do a tour of these wonderful cavernous caves. Thereafter you depart for Knysna on the Garden Route. The route takes you over the Outeniqua Pass to enter the Garden Route. You make a stop at Wilderness for a photo opportunity (weather permitting) and then continue to Knysna. After checking in at your hotel on the Waterfront, you do an oyster sunset cruise on the Lagoon. You return to your hotel to relax and enjoy dinner (own account).

  3. Day 3

    Knysna to Plettenberg Bay and back (±60km)

    After breakfast, depart for nearby Plettenberg Bay, a very popular holiday destination. At Lookout Beach you board a boat that is launched from the beach. Enjoy this wonderful opportunity for an ocean safari in search of whales, dolphins and seals (weather permitting). You have a lunch break (own account) before departing on a tour through the Qolweni Township, school and creche. This project is aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged communities. The income of the township tour goes towards this charity. You return to your hotel in Knysna. Refresh and set out for the Waterfront for dinner (own account).

  4. Day 4 Knysna → Port Elizabeth

    Knysna to Port Elizabeth (±265km)

    On this last day of your tour you travel further east to Port Elizabeth. En route you pass through the Tsitsikamma Forest with its huge age old stinkwood and yellowwood trees. Turn off to Storm's River Mouth. Marvel at the waves crashing onto rocks on this rugged and wild coastline. Take a walk to the suspension bridge for excellent views over the Indian Ocean and up the river gorge. You arrive at Port Elizabeth late afternoon to be dropped off at you hotel or at the airport.

    Flights from Port Elizabeth or hotel stays are not included in this tour price, we will gladly assist with these if requested.
