Wildlife Experience Tour

This tour will give you the opportunity to experience African wildlife in its natural surroundings. Apart from the four star hotels, you will also stay at two private game lodges and discover excellent South African cuisine. The tour will take you from Johannesburg into the scenic Mpumalanga province with its abundance of game reserves. Next you travel through the kingdom of Swaziland to KwaZulu Natal with different eco systems and game viewing. The tour ends at Durban, the holiday capital of South Africa.

Overview

On the first day of the tour, you will be collected by our professional guide. You travel eastwards to Mpumalanga, home of the Kruger National Park and many private game reserves. You have lunch en route (own account). Continue to the Makalali Private Game Reserve for your first open vehicle safari experience and overnight stay. Day 2 starts with an early morning game drive and breakfast. You depart for Sabie via the iconic Panorama Route, with wonderful views over the Blyde River Canyon. Check in for your overnight stay at the Lone Creek River Lodge.

Day 3 will take you through the famous Kruger National Park with an incredible diversity of animals and birds. You exit the Park to arrive at the adjacent Mthethomusha Game Reserve where you enjoy an open vehicle game drive and dinner. After breakfast you have a short game drive before departing for St Lucia. You travel via the small kingdom of Swaziland before entering the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Travel along the sub tropical north coast to St Lucia, situated in a natural World Heritage Site. An optional night activity and dinner will be available for your own account. On day 5 you enjoy a last open safari game drive, breakfast and a boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary. You depart for the King Shaka International Airport in Durban, the holiday capital of South Africa.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Johannesburg → Hoedspruit

    Johannesburg to Hoedspruit via Dullstroom (± 415 Km)

    After breakfast, you leave Johannesburg and travel east for the Mpumalanga Province with a large diversity of scenery, including open grasslands and impressive mountain ranges. You travel via the small town of Dullstroom known for trout fishing. You enjoy lunch en route (own account). Continue north for the region of Hoedspruit, where the Makalali Private Game Reserve, your destination for today, is situated. After checking in you do your first game drive, in an open safari vehicle, in search of the ‘big five’ (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) and many of the other animals in the African bush. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and so ends your first day of the tour.

  2. Day 2 Hoedspruit → Sabie

    Hoedspruit to Sabie via the Panorama Route (±145 km)

    The day starts with an early morning game drive in an open safari vehicle with coffee and rusks. Enjoy your last breakfast at Makalali Game Reserve before you depart on the tour of the day. Travel through the Abel Erasmus Pass and climb to the top of the escarpment for a tour of the famous Panorama Route. This will include a stop at the Three Rondavels from where you look down on the Blyde River Canyon, the largest green canyon in the world. You continue to the Bourke’s Luck Potholes where the Blyde and Treur River join and enter the canyon. The rivers have formed wonderful ‘potholes’ where the river cuts through solid rock formations. At Wonder View, you have a panoramic view on the Lowveld with a sheer drop of about 900 m. Enjoy lunch en route (own account). The last part of the tour takes you to the small logging town of Sabie where you check in at the Lone Creek River Lodge to enjoy dinner and to overnight.

  3. Day 3 Sabie → Mthethomusha Game Reserve

    Sabie to Mthethomusha Game Reserve (±170 km)

    After breakfast you travel down the escarpment to Hazyview in the Lowveld from where you continue to the world renowned Kruger National Park. You spend the day doing game drives in your closed vehicle in this vast reserve. You have the opportunity of spotting some of the innumerable mammals, reptiles and birds that call this wonderful place home. Lunch to be enjoyed in the Park (own cost). You exit the Park at the Malelane Gate in the south and continue to the Bongani Mountain Lodge (or similar) in the Mthethomusha Private Game Reserve. You have the opportunity for a late afternoon game drive before you enjoy dinner.

  4. Day 4 Mthethomusha Game Reserve → St. Lucia

    Mthethomusha Game Reserve to St Lucia (±445 km)

    After an early breakfast and a last short game drive, you depart for St Lucia in KwaZulu-Natal. The route takes you through the small landlocked Kingdom of Swaziland. (For entry into Swaziland you need a valid passport. For some nationalities a multi-entrance visa is also required - own account). You enjoy lunch en route (own account). Continue to the Lavumisa border post to enter the province of KwaZulu-Natal. You travel via the sub tropical Elephant coast to arrive at St Lucia, situated in a natural World Heritage Site. Dinner and an optional night game activity available (own account).

  5. Day 5 St. Lucia → Durban

    St Lucia to Durban (±300km)

    You have a last opportunity for an early morning game drive in an open safari vehicle. Explore iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa's first World Heritage Site.The Park is the biggest estuarine system in Africa. Enjoy breakfast and depart for a boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary, known for it's abundance of hippos, crocodiles and multitude of bird species. Enjoy lunch (own account) before departing for the King Shaka International Airport at Durban, the holiday capital of South Africa.
