Overview
#Kruger National Park The world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa was established in 1898. The huge reserve stretches across two provinces - the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces. The National Park covers an astonishing 20 000 square kilometres or 2 million hectares. It is a ±400 km (250 mile) journey to travel from the southernmost gate to the most northern Park entrance. A well maintained network of roads, developed in such a way as to cause the least harm and intrusion to the environment, makes the Park very accessible for 'self-drive' visitors.
The Kruger offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. It is unrivaled in the diversity of its wildlife and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. The Park is home to an impressive number of species: 336 tree, 49 fish, 34 amphibian, 114 reptile, 507 bird and 147 mammal species.
The conservation services endeavor to preserve natural ecosystems in the most pristine state possible. This not only implies that the full range of animal and plant species and their habitats are protected, but also that ecological processes are allowed to take their course.
